OUR 1st CENTENARY
At Foglizzo we are proud of our century-old heritage, but we are also working to create a more sustainable future.
The circular economy is at the heart of our corporate philosophy, not just in terms of reducing our footprint with eco-innovative production processes, but in relation to every aspect of the leather business.
We have always used leathers exclusively derived from the food industry as a waste product. And our tanning methods rely on natural vegetable extracts, a slower but more eco-friendly and artisanal method of converting raw hide into leather than the chemical processes used for mass production.
But we have gone further and researched the ‘embodied energy’ that goes into to leather production. Defined as the available energy used in creating a product, embodied energy is an accounting methodology that measures the sum total of the energy required for the entire product
“ A 100-year-old company naturally looks to the future, not just worrying about today, but planning a sustainable tomorrow.
For us, sustainability is not just about reducing the environmental impact in the production process, but it is a concept that is more extended to all phases of our business, from the process of acquiring the raw material to its reuse”.
Marco Foglizzo
Lifecycle
This includes the acquisition of the raw material, its processing, transport, manufacturing and assembly, all the way through to the end-of-life reuse or recycling of our products.
Our 100th anniversary is dedicated to monitoring our activities even more closely with the aim of further reducing our environmental impact, both in relation to our competitors and other manufactured materials. We make this data freely and transparently available to our customers so they can choose with confidence Foglizzo as their ethical design partner.
